No Water or Bread in Austin

how lame is this… last night i went to the grocery store to get a few things to get me through to this weekend. water and bread were on my list. i went to Albertsons and the bread aisle looked like it had been hit by a tornado… so i sifted through the debri and found a loaf worthy of salvaging. several aisles later i came to the water… and it too had been plundered. well i found a couple of the last precious few gallons of purified water and went on my way, but i was thinking… ‘man did the delivery truck for water and bread not show up this week or what???’

later last night one of my cousins called and told me i better get gas in my truck if i needed it, cause there are crazy lines and stations running out of gas. ‘what’s going on?’ i asked, and she told me that because of the hurricane headed towards Galveston everyone is stocking up on bread and water and gas.

i just gotta say this… i can live without bread for a few weeks… a few months even… probably don’t really need the stuff anyhow (according to Dr. Atkins) and i think i could survive on tap water too. i mean i dont really like the taste of tap water… but i would survive just fine. now gas… that’s a whole other ballgame… don’t get me started on a rant about how the stations and oil companies take advantage of everyones doom and gloom outlook when it comes to gas prices… sheesh.

the sad thing is this… i can picture all these upper middle class folks getting in their monster SUV’s filling up to go to the grocery store, then buying as much bottled water as possible… and they gotta have their bread… heaven forbid they go without bread for a while… then they fill up with gas on the way home.

for bread in water… the things i thought (when i was a kid) we fed to prisoners.

seems a little extreme to me. people need to calm down. yes these storms suck and yes they will impact us negatively in many ways… but i’m pretty sure Mrs. Baird’s and Sparklets will be ok… the only reason there might be a bread or purified water shortage is because of all the “sky is falling” people out there encouraging the corporations to raise prices and slow down supplies and boost their profit margins through the roof. so think about it… please.

  1. i went to sam’s and got 40 loaves today, as well as all the 5 gallon jugs of water I could fit in my SUV. then I filled up with gas, as well as two spare gas tanks that I have attached to my roof now.

I did got and get gas this morning, but that was due to me not having any in my tank. at that point of time… gas was 2.63. When I went by again around lunch… gas was 2.73. When I went by on my way home from work… gas was 2.89. Umm… unless the tanks were filled two seperate times today – something is going on. !!!!!

I’m with you on this one… hell the whole town is full of houstonians and galvestonians. every hotel is booked solid in town as well as odessa. Gotta love it for tourism aspect haha Thank god Odessa is the Music City (a whole nother can of worms)… or all these refugees would be bored sick.

  2. the first paragraph was sarcasm.. for those that didn’t know. and when I start the second paragraph with “I did got”… it means, “I did go”. It is my code language. heh

  3. It’s crazy around Sweetwater also Buster. I don’t get it, everybody around here are stocking up on gas mainly. The price is expected to be around $5 a gallon by end of Saturday, tomorrow. I have already heard that 4 or 5 gas stations in town are out of gas. That is so funny. So what, did these stores have gas trucks coming by everyday to refill their tanks before all this? No they didn’t, so I find it very odd that these stations are running out all of a sudden. I really think that it is just a rumor being spread around by all these, as you say, “the sky is falling” people. All this is doing is creating panik for no reason. And I really don’t understand why the gas companies quit delivering. I can see if they cut back or something, but they totally quit delivering around here. It is a sad thing that a hurricane can cripple this country so easily. I’m scared to say, but I can see a prime time coming up for a terorist attack, kick us while we are down.

Gas has gone from $2.63 a gallon to $2.98 a gallon already. I’m sure that it will be over $3 bucks by the time I finish typing this long winded reply.

    😉

  4. I severely doubt we will see anything close to 5 dollars a gallon, but people keep talkin’ about it – and they are going to make it happen.
