Bocktoberfest 2006 (Godsmack, Blue October, Pat Green & more)

last saturday, October 14th, i was out at Shiner’s Bocktoberfest… and had a blast! good food, good music and of course beer provided by Shiner’s own Spoetzl Brewery. this year was my 2nd time to go down and i’m predicting many more trips in the future. this year the lineup included Pat Green, Blue October and Godsmack. this year we got rained on just slightly during Pat Greens set, other than that the weather was very nice. come down next year and check it out… i promise it’s well worth the $40 ticket!!

o i do have to add this… getting in the gates this year was slower than it should have been… so if anyone that actually has anything to do with organizing Bocktoberfest is reading this… please have more gates and/or security personnel next year!! it wasn’t horrible, but it was less than ideal.

ACL Fest (Austin City Limits Festival)

this past weekend i attended a pretty cool music festival in Austin Texas… the ACL Fest (Austin City Limits Festival). if you’ve seen the tv show on PBS you know how diverse the performers are. there have been some truly amazing studio performances and now that the festival has been running several years it is establishing itself as a truly ‘must see’ for concert enthusiast. this year the lineup included: Gnarls Barkley, The Raconteurs, John Mayer, Matisyahu, Willie Nelson, The Flaming Lips and more… with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers closing it out. (Full Lineup)

there was some rain over the weekend… but nothing that stopped the true fans from sticking it out. about 20 minutes into Tom Pettys set he had to shut down for about 40 minutes… but then came back and played an hour past when the show was supposed to wrap up.

Petty was good but… The Flaming Lips by far put on the best show!! i’m only sad that their set wasn’t longer and although it was at sunset a nighttime show would’ve been cooler. i could tell u some of the things they had going on: massive ballons, several santas and elves, aliens and astronauts, fake blood and tampons < < plenty of audience participation, confetti cannons and more... but u really needed to be there... or go there (check them out if and when u get a chance). remember when ACL Fest 2007 comes rolling around be sure to checkout TicketCity.com for ACL Festival Tickets!

Pandora’s Jar – A Pandora.com Time Shifter

pandora.com is an awesome service
this open source app >> Pandora’s Jar allows users to time-shift songs… some would call it a Pandora Ripper… as it does allow you to save the MP3, tag it using Last.fm and listen to it at a later time. it’s like a DVR (you know Tivo for Television?) except it’s for audio… so i guess it’s a DAR (Digital Audio Recorder) specifically for Pandora.com’s broadcasts.

just thought i’d point it out.

Flight of the Conchords

i saw a short HBO stand-up/folk music comedy act last night that just cracked me up. there is a band called Flight of the Conchords comprised of 2 guys from New Zealand and they are absolutely hilarious.

What The Folk! is the closest thing to a homepage i could find for these guys. so for more band info be sure to check that site out.

here are songs from the HBO show… (my personal faves are “Business Time” & “Hiphopapotamus vs Rhymenocerous”)

Pandoras Music Box

thanks to casey for pointing out this neat site that creates an online radio of songs based on the DNA of music you already like. it’s not perfect but there is some huge potential. i’m always discovering artists and songs that i didn’t know about by chance… just imagine if u could find music based on the qualities that you enjoy. i think it’s a very interesting idea.

Shiner Bocktoberfest 2005 – Audioslave

yesterday evening i went to see AUDIOSLAVE at the Shiner Bocktoberfest (not Rocktoberfest). o man…. my ears are still ringing… hehe. it was a blaaaaaaaaaaaast!!!

there were several bands/artists there but for several reasons we only got there in time to see Good Charolette & AUDIOSLAVE. Seether played before GC and I had hoped we’d make it in time to check them out, but it didn’t happen. that was ok, because all i really came for was AUDIOSLAVE. and guess what… i was not let down 😀 Audioslave was … was… was… ;kajbgoe;lkav GOOD.

when they came out it was full blown riot for several songs. then they busted out some Soundgarden… Spoonman and they crowd loved it, not my fave but the energy was good. later Cornell said they had something special to play for us… then the soft intro to I Am the Highway was brutally busted open with a Rage Against the Machine Medley…. O MY GOODNESS… the pit that i was on the edge of became about twice as big… placing me pretty much in the middle… 😀 which was fine for a while… because i was too busy jumping around (in my own world) before i realized i was in another world… one of elbows and a$$holes haha… so i eventually made my way back to the edge (with the help of a few others) just in time for Rage’s Killing in the Name Of…. holy smokes!! ok so eventually things cooled down as Cornell was left on stage alone with an acoustic guitar…. the lights go dark… us and the stars and a campfire rendition of Black Hole Sun…. VERY NICE! now what?? i’ll tell u what… Cornell started telling us how he wrote a song for Johnny Cash (btw, cash recorded Rusty Cage) but Cash told him that he felt like it had too many chords, so Cornell said he felt like that was OK because he thinks Audioslave got it right. and boy did they. in fact i was happy to learn that the song he was talking about is my favorite Audioslave song: I am the Highway. so there he went playing and singing (with a lot of help from the crowd) then halfway through the band comes out of the darkness to plug back in and finish it up… very cool. after that i’m thinking… ok now what?? and well… they left us with a sweat… as they played a couple more burners and left as the fireworks show (which was weak… but hey… better than nothing) wrapped it up.

then i got a shirt and left.

hehe… ok there was some more interesting stuff that happened later… but i’ll leave u with my recolllections of Audioslave.

anybody else want to comment on all the other goodness at Bocktoberfest feel free!!
